Attitudes to streetscape and street uses
Introduction
This article summarises people's attitudes to streets as part of the built environment. The results come from questions included for the Department for Transport in the Office for National Statistics' (ONS) Omnibus Survey for October 2004. The questions covered the following topics:
- Traffic problems and their solutions;
- Local street environment and sense of community;
- Priorities for street uses;
- Views on the importance of different attributes of the street environment;
- Trade-offs with convenient parking;
- Resident input to street improvements;
- Choice of a street to live in
