Who is eligible to receive an Air Transport Auxiliary Veterans Badge (ATA Veterans Badge)?

An Air Transport Auxiliary Veterans Badge (also known as ATA Veterans Badge) can be issued to any man or woman who served in the Air Transport Auxiliary between 3rd September 1939 and 30th November 1945.

All ATA Association members are already known to us as eligible recipients, if you are not an ATA Association member or would like to apply for an ATA Veterans Badge please see the further information at the bottom of this page.

Are the ATA Veterans Badges just for pilots?

No, the badges are for all surviving men or women who served in the Air Transport Auxiliary between 3rd September 1939 and 30th November 1945.

No, the badges are for all surviving men or women who served in the Air Transport Auxiliary between 3rd September 1939 and 30th November 1945.

Can the ATA Veterans Badge be awarded posthumously to members of the ATA?

The ATA Veterans Badge is a survivors' badge rather than a medal and has been designed to honour the united effort of the whole Air Transport Auxiliary service. 
In line with Ministry of Defence protocol and other similar Government Veterans Badge schemes, the ATA Veterans Badge can only be issued posthumously if death has occurred since the date of introduction – 1st February 2008.  If this is the case, the ATA Veterans Badge may be awarded to the Next of Kin.

When will the ATA Veterans Badges be issued?

The ATA Veterans Badge will be available later this year and we shall be in touch with all known eligible recipients with further details of how Badges will be issued.

What does the ATA Veterans Badge look like?

The ATA Veterans Badge is being designed and produced in line with other similar Veterans Badges, further details will be available shortly.

Will there be any cost for the ATA Veterans Badge?

No, there will not be any cost for the ATA Veterans Badge.

How do I apply for an ATA Veterans Badge?
